Why the name Mile 23 ? English engineers measured the course of the Danube in miles, starting with mile 0 in Sulina on the Black Sea coast.  Hence, 23 miles inland.
Mile (Referring to Nautical mile ) 23 (Mila 23) is a fishing village hidden away in the Delta,  located on a bend of the Sulina arm known as the ‘Old Danube’ (Dunarea Veche),
A row of small houses lined the riverbank, standing out against the greenery with their blue painted facades. Fishermen sit outside the solitary bar waiting for passers-by to purchase their catches of the day.
Here is one of the main settlements of the" Lipoveni", descendants of Russian refugees who fled from religious persecution in the early 18th century and who make their living from fishing, livestock breeding and reed harvesting in this vast area.
This is a good starting point for trips to the nearby waterways.

DAY  3
-Visiting the beautiful historical city of Sulina
-Departure on Sulina arm back to Uzlina
-Lunch on the rute

Sulina beach has a natural, almost wild look, with fine sand, shallow water and internationally protected species such as Sweet William (Garofita), sand Convolvulus from the bindweed family, as well as white sea buckthorn dunes. Being the place where the Danube meets the Black Sea the water  isn’t salty as on the south of the coast, but has rather a sweet taste
Sulina-The new lighthouse
Is between the Danube and the Black Sea and its location gives perfect access to both the Black Sea's beach and to visit the Danube Delta.
This is also the city located at the lowest altitude-
  4 meters above sea level.
Sulina -The old lighthouse which dates back in 1802.
